If you’re seeking the perfect date night in Cork City, look no further than The Metropole Hotel on McCurtain Street. Nestled in the vibrant Victorian Quarter, The Metropole has launched a Summer Special Menu that not only tantalises taste buds but also champions sustainability and supports local producers. This initiative is a testament to the hotel’s commitment to reducing food waste by 20% and meticulously using every element of their ingredients.
From the moment we stepped into The Metropole’s Met Bar & Restaurant, the warm and inviting atmosphere set the stage for a memorable evening.
Our culinary journey began with the Fried Halloumi, Carrot & Orange Salad. This vibrant dish, featuring shaved fennel, micro coriander, and a zesty mustard and orange dressing, was a refreshing start. The halloumi was perfectly fried, offering a delightful contrast to the crisp vegetables and tangy dressing. Add a stunning side of roasties and it is the perfect main course also.
For the main course, we opted for the Double Irish Hereford Cheeseburger. This was no ordinary burger. It was a gourmet masterpiece with a grilled flat mushroom, Bandon cheddar, baby gem, beef tomato, grilled bacon, and pickles, all encased in a soft brioche bun. The burger was served with skinny French fries and truffle mayonnaise, elevating a classic comfort food to an extraordinary experience. The flavours were harmoniously balanced, and the quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite.
Our dining experience was further enriched by the knowledgeable restaurant manager, who expertly guided us through the wine list. Her recommendations perfectly complemented our meal, enhancing the overall dining experience. Her expertise added a touch of sophistication and personalised service that truly set the evening apart.
Dessert was a delightful indulgence. We savoured the Mango, Passion Fruit, and Soya Posset, which was a tropical delight with exotic coulis, candied hazelnuts, and fresh mango. The creamy posset was light and refreshing, a perfect end to the meal. We also couldn’t resist the Dark Chocolate Marquise, a rich and decadent dessert with candied hazelnuts, amarena cherries, white chocolate & almond tuile, and vanilla ice cream. The deep chocolate flavour was perfectly balanced by the cherries and the crunchy tuile, making it an unforgettable finale.
Our date night at The Metropole was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of exquisite food, outstanding service, and a cosy ambiance made it a perfect evening. The Summer Special Menu, available seven days a week from 5:00 PM for €32.50 per person, offers a remarkable dining experience that celebrates the best of local ingredients and sustainable practices.
