Ky Ky Kids to represent southern region at ILDN National Enterprise Awards
Cork entrepreneur, Sharon McDermott of Ky Ky Kids, has won a place at the Irish Local Development Network (ILDN) National Enterprise Awards in Tullamore on May 16. Nominated by Cork City City Partnership, Sharon will compete with entrepreneurs from all over Ireland who have been selected by local development companies.
Originally from Cork, Sharon lived in Turkey for a number of years, where she worked for a travel and holiday company. When she returned to Cork, she wanted to set up her business and contacted the Cork City Partnership (CCP). Supported by CCP and the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance Scheme, as well as by the Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP), Sharon is now a successful business owner and entrepreneur in children’s occasion wear and quality baby gifts.
“We are delighted to see Sharon achieve such success with her children’s clothing business. It has taken a lot of hard work and perseverance, but she has shown her entrepreneurial and marketing skills are very strong, and has gone from startup to profitable business over the last two years. We wish Sharon every success at the ILDN National Enterprise Awards next month in Tullamore,” said Tony O’Regan of the Cork City Partnership.
Speaking about her upcoming participation at the ILDN National Enterprise Awards, Sharon McDermott said:
“The enterprise support and training that I received from the Cork City Partnership at the early stages along with the expertise and advise from the Local Enterprise Office proved invaluable. I also did extensive market research which ensured that my company evolved to what the market actually wanted – occasion wear for children that is machine washable, durable and practical as well as being stylish and pretty. I use social media to promote Ky Ky Kids clothing collections, and the online retail shop was set up a year ago now. I’m looking forward to meeting fellow business people in Tullamore at the ILDN National Enterprise Awards.”
The companies competing for the ILDN National Enterprise Awards have been supported by Department of Employment Affairs & Social Protection supports under the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance as well as by the Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP), through the local development companies across Ireland.
