The latest winner of the Talbot Collection Cork Community, Business and Sports Awards is John Caulfield, Manager of Cork City FC. John follows Community Award Winner Tom Butler of the Ballincollig Tidy Towns Committee and January Business Award Winner Bob Savage, Vice President EMEA Centres of Excellence, Dell EMC. Billie Jean Sargent and her Rhythm Dance Company received the Community Award for February and St. Mary’s
High School Midleton Equestrian Team received the Sports Sward for April.
The Awards Scheme is sponsored by Talbot Collection Cork along with Media Partners RedFM and Award Sponsors AIB Midleton and Ballincollig. New York born John Caulfield, a worthy winner of this Sports Award sponsored by the Talbot Collection Cork incorporating Oriel House Hotel and the Midleton Park Hotel, is currently manager of Cork City FC and has enjoyed a remarkable career in sport, both as a player and a manager.
John also played football with Cork. Living in Enniskeane. Caulfield has enjoyed many successful years as a player with Cork City FC. Alongside Pat Morley, they were the most prolific goal scoring duo in the League of Ireland at the time.
They enjoyed tremendous success under the late Noel O’Mahony in the late eighties and early nineties in a team laden with stars, including Phil Harrington, Declan Daly, Dave Barry, Patsy Freyne to name but a few in a star spangled line
up.
John started his managerial career with Avondale United where he enjoyed much success, winning a lot of titles at Munster Senior League Level and nationally with the Blackrock based side before moving on to UCC where again he was equally successful with the college side, doing well at Collingwood Cup level and in the Munster Senior League.
Caulfield was appointed Cork City FC Manager over four years ago.
In John’s first year at the helm, Cork City were very close to winning the League Title, losing out to Dundalk in a thriller on the last day of the season in Oriel Park. 2015 saw them entertain European football for the first time after many years, losing out to Reykjavik and again with Dundalk proving too good for them in the Cup Final in the Aviva Stadium.
Cork City, under John Caulfield, have enjoyed a marvellous run in the Europeans, with victories in Sweden and narrowly losing out to KRC Genk before full houses in Turners Cross.
In 2016 City won the FAI Cup Final at the Aviva Stadium and in 2017 City claimed the double of Cup and League for the first time in the club’s history.
The West Cork based Cork City manager is truly deserving of this prestigious Talbot Collection Cork Award today along with his backroom team and Cork City as a club.
