Established in 2019, Veterinary Specialists Ireland was born from Dr. Laura Cuddy and Dr. Turlough McNally’s vision to offer advanced specialist care to small animals on the island of Ireland. Both Laura and Turlough graduated from University College Dublin in 2008, and spent five years in some of the largest and most technologically advanced hospitals in the United States undergoing further surgical training to become Specialists. A Veterinary Specialist is the equivalent of a human consultant, having undergone extensive training and rigorous certification in their field. Veterinary Specialists work closely with general practitioner vets to ensure pets receive the care they need when they need it.
Building the Dream
Laura and Turlough returned to Ireland in 2013 and spent time working in university and private practice. They recognised a gap in Ireland in rapid access to advanced specialty care for pets with specialised health needs and embarked on a project to build their dream small animal hospital in Summerhill, Co. Meath. The state-of-the-art facility opened in June 2019 and has undergone rapid expansion in the subsequent five years, providing services beyond those available in general veterinary practices, such as advanced imaging, complex surgeries, and intensive care.
A New Beginning in Little Island
Recognising that not every pet owner could travel to Meath, Laura and Turlough wanted to bring exemplary Specialist care to the heart of Munster, and chose Little Island as the site for their new 15,000 sq ft hospital. Featuring advanced diagnostic capabilities such as a 160 slice CT scanner and a high field MRI, the facility is equipped to provide advanced diagnostic, surgical, and medical care for pets, with an exemplary team of Specialists.
