A new HIQA (Health Information and Quality Authority) inspection report has highlighted Araglen House Nursing Home’s standards of care for their residents following an unannounced inspection last April 2024.
Araglen House Nursing Home, based in Boherbue in North Cork since 2012, features both single and twin rooms with en-suite facilities, as well as a newly completed extension.
The Inspector’s report highlighted the “warm and welcoming atmosphere,” along with numerous accounts of positive feedback from residents and families who described the staff as kind and compassionate. The inspection, which included several face-to-face interviews, found that “residents felt that their opinions were listened to and that their rights were respected.” The report also highlighted the variety of activities available for residents.
“There is an extensive range of activities on offer at the nursing home, including singing, art, and exercise classes,” the report stated. Residents described these activities as “enjoyable” and noted that their “choices are respected.” Additionally, residents spoke positively about the various food options at the nursing home, appreciating the “relaxed approach to dining,” which allowed them “time to enjoy their food.”
The report also highlighted the “lively atmosphere” in the nursing home throughout the day and observed “several thoughtful and patient interactions between staff and residents.”
Paul Rochford, Owner of Araglen House Nursing Home, welcomed the details of the report, stating: “The positive HIQA report is a testament to our amazing staff, and we are very grateful for the kind words and feedback detailed in the report. Providing a safe, happy, comfortable space for our residents is of the utmost priority and we feel the report findings illustrate just this.”
“We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to the families who have entrusted us with the care of their loved ones. There is no greater level of responsibility, and it is one we take extremely seriously.”
HIQA’s visit to the nursing home also outlined the facilities available, including spacious living rooms, a picturesque garden, and a large dining space. The nursing home is divided into five units: Honeysuckle, Primrose, Daffodil, Orchid, and Bluebell unit, which is a specialist facility for residents with advanced dementia.
The HIQA inspection evaluated multiple aspects of the service, including safety, care quality, governance, and management, and confirmed Araglen House Nursing Home’s compliance with regulations across staffing, training, and safeguarding. The nursing home was noted as meeting or exceeding all standards, reflecting their dedication to maintaining a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for their residents.
