Movies with stars such as Pat Shortt, Tommy Tiernan and Moe Dunford to feature at festival
IndieCork Festival, the festival of independent film in Ireland, has announced several new exciting additions to the programme.
A new Irish film – Dark Lies The Island – written by author Kevin Barry, directed by Ian Fitzgibbon, and starring Pat Shortt, Tommy Tiernan and Moe Dunford, Charlie Murphy and Peter Coonanhas been announced as the festival’s Closing Night film screening on October 13th at The Gate Cinema.
A darkly comic story from the fertile imagination of Irish writer Kevin Barry, recently long listed for the Booker Prize, this is his first outing as a screenwriter.
Festival Co-Director Mick Hannigan said: “We’re delighted to secure such a wonderful closing film, that represents some of the best directing and acting talent in the country. It is also truly exciting to screen Kevin Barry’s debut as screenwriter – he is warmly remembered in Cork through his journalism days in The Irish Examiner. We can now enjoy his talent and layered writing on screen.”
IndieCork also announced several international feature films in its lineup for October – many of which reach IndieCork following their premieres at Cannes, Venice and Toronto Film festivals. This includes the French film Sibyl directed by Justine Triet which closed the Cannes film festival and Polish feature Corpus Christi directed by Jan Komasa, recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
With six programmes of Irish short films in competition, six programmes of International films and two programmes of Creative Cork, along with several retrospective programmes, IndieCork is Ireland’s largest festival for short films.
Many young and emerging filmakers will make their way to Cork for the festival to represent their films and participate in some of the industry training events and panels.
Mick added: “With numerous sidebar programmes including Moving Collage, Visegrad Animation, and a Steven Eastwood masterclass – the festival takes the pulse of emerging talent and upcoming innovation in film as an art form. Now established as the festival for independent film in Ireland, the seventh IndieCork Festival of independent film and music will be held from October 6th to 13th, 2019. The event drew record entries from 58 countries this year reflecting the international standing of the festival.”
‘Dark Lies The Island’ will be released on October 18th by Break Out Pictures. The opening night film – ‘A Bump Along The Way’ will screen on Sunday October 6th at 8.45pm in The Gate Cinema. Tickets are on sale for both films at www.corkcinemas.com.
