Herlihy’s Centra is a group of Centra stores, focused on customer needs from the moment of opening to closing each and every day. With stores in Mallow, Fermoy, Grand Parade, Bishopstown, Oliver Plunkett Street and Millstreet, Herlihys serve a wide, satisfied and loyal clientele in retail.
And so it is no surprise that recently, Herlihy’s Centra brought home the title of The Cork Retail Award 2018! This award recognises the very best operators in Cork-based retail; a team always striving to be on the top of their game through investment, innovation and passion.
“It is a huge honour for us to win this award,” said Operations Director Kevin Herlihy. “The Business Cork award is a coveted award and we are very proud winners. Our business, like every other business has had a turbulent few years but we have survived the recession and have bounced back! This award is a recognition of our success.
“The celebrations held at the Clayton in Silver Springs went well into the night! We are planning some events shortly to celebrate the award win. As part of the celebration, we hope to promote our winning the award through point of sale in all our stores and on social media.
“On behalf of my brother Brian and I, we would like to thank our teams in each of the six stores for all their dedication and hard work. Without them, we would not have won this award. We would also like to thank Business Cork, who represent the business community so well and for giving us this award.”

“This award is to recognise the very best operators in retail in Cork and ensure that their team strives to be at the top of their game. Our winner tonight has constantly progressed their retail stores in its group and has led by investment and innovation and is believes passionately in always looking after its customers. Ladies and gentlemen, The Cork Retail Award 2018 goes to Herlihy’s Centra.”
The crystal award is currently on display at the Grand Parade store and is a fitting cherry on top of a great year for Herlihy’s Centra stores. “We have just completed two revamps in our stores on Oliver Plunkett Street and Grand Parade. Both stores were completely gutted and refitted in a matter of days! This was no easy feat and we are immensely proud of our achievements.
“It is important to be continually investing in your business, otherwise you will get left behind. 2019 will be a busy year for us also, as we embark on a refit of our Fermoy store in January, and we are hoping to acquire a new store also!”
Before the group break ground on these new and exciting projects and openings, the festive period brings with it its own buzz. “We have a diverse range of stores in the group. Our stores in the city centre on Oliver Plunkett Street will be busy serving hungry customers, who are doing their Christmas shopping or revellers, who are out for their staff parties looking for a late night munch.
“Then our stores in Fermoy, Millstreet, Mallow and Bishopstown will be dealing with our catering orders, which are huge for us at this time of year. From turkeys and hams to full Christmas dinners, we provide anything that a household would need at this time of year.” Their comprehensive catering brochure is available here.
Herlihy’s Centra contribute to much more than the local business landscape too. As a customer focused organisation, Herlihys have always been passionate about making a positive impact upon their local community. “In 2018, we fundraised for Breakthrough Cancer Research and also for Marymount, which is very close to our hearts, as our Dad, Pat Herlihy, who started the business with one store back in 1980, sadly passed away last May.”
Next month, the team will be continuing their compassionate works through their annual Christmas Jumper Day, raising much needed funds for Cork Simon Community, to help fight homelessness this Winter.
Herlihy’s Centra always strive to be the very best by giving excellent customer service and it shows. “We are passionate about fresh food and this motivates the team to be the best we can be.”
