Festive shoppers in Cork are set to enjoy free weekend parking after 5pm in city centre multi-storey car parks.
This free parking offer will allow families to enjoy the city’s increased late night shopping offering in the lead up to Christmas, to attend GLOW, grab a bite to eat in many of the city’s restaurants or attend a Christmas panto or show – without considering parking costs.
Cork City Councillors have agreed this free parking offer will be available to vehicles entering Paul Street Car Park and North Main Street Car Park after 5pm on Thursday nights, Friday nights and Saturday nights from Thursday November 22.
It will be available at North Main Street Car Park from 5pm to 9:30pm and at Paul Street Car Park from 5pm to midnight.
The city centre’s Christmas lights are due to be switched on in the annual ceremony this Sunday, November 18 and the city’s much-loved GLOW Christmas festival will light up Bishop Lucey Park and its surroundings from Friday November 30.
The free weekend parking offer will continue until Saturday January 12, meaning that it can be enjoyed by New Year sales shoppers too.
This is the latest initiative by Cork City Council to support the marketing of Cork City Centre. In recent months, the CORE group, which includes the Cork Business Association, Chamber of Commerce, the retail and hospitality sectors, Cork City Council, the Gardaí, and Bus Éireann, have all been working on a suite of measures to ensure the continued vibrancy of our city centre.
Cork Business Association has also launched new social media platforms to promote city centre shopping, Cork Chamber of Commerce has introduced a One for All multi-store gift card, which is exclusive to the wider Cork area and a growing number of retailers are expanding their opening hours to meet the changing needs of the growing number of city centre workers.
