The group representing conference organisers – AIPCO – is welcoming reports that the government is set to extend the term of the 9% VAT rate for the hospitality industry.
Chairperson Nicola McGrane says: “This would be a positive development for our members who are fighting hard to get their business back on track, three years into a pandemic.
The business tourism market is worth €75m a year to the economy and brings over 45,000 delegates to this country. It also plays a vital role in positioning Ireland as a global knowledge hub in key sectors, showcasing Irish talent and opening avenues for international funding and job creation.
AIPCO has been vocal about the pressures facing our members around rising industry costs and staffing. Extending the 9% rate through the summer will be an important way to relieve some of that pressure, attract additional international delegates and help our members to keep rebuilding for the future”.
The issues of rising prices, staffing issues and more will be on the agenda at AIPCO’s upcoming annual Business Tourism Conference, due to take place 2-3 March at the Fota Resort in Cork. The event’s focus is to ‘Reflect and Connect’ and represents an important opportunity for members and networking contacts to discuss the realities facing the sector.
