The hugely popular Cork Gourmet Trail, which takes place on Saturday September 22, has been officially launched! The day will start at noon with a drinks reception at the newly refurbished Met Bar at the Metropole Hotel, before taking off on a culinary tour of Cork, taking in some of Cork’s best restaurants. Some of the Cork restaurants taking part include, Amicus, Cask, The Cornstore, Greenes, The Imperial Hotel, Docklands,Tequila Jacks, The Old Town Whiskey Bar at Bodega, Crawford & Co, The New Yorker Bar & Bistro, Olivo and The Oyster Tavern.
The trail will last until approximately 5pm and then guests will return to the Metropole Hotel for the Gourmet Trail after party with DJ ’til 8pm. On successful completion of the trail, guests will be awarded with a goody bag. The theme of the trail is Hats and there will be prizes for the Most Seafaring Hat!
Also, that evening the Metropole will host a very special fundraising Black Tie Gala Dinner in aid of the RNLI in the Ballroom from 7pm. Keeping with the gourmet theme, each course will be prepared by a separate celebrity chef. Music will be provided by the Roaring Forties.

Both the Gourmet Trail and the Gala Dinner are part of the Murphy’s Cork Oyster and Seafood Festival, which is taking place from September 21 to 23. The festival will open with a performance from the Cork City Samba Band and throughout the weekend there will be free cookery demonstrations with Bord Bia. Also in attendance will be Derry Clarke from the renowned L’Ecrivian restaurant in Dublin!Tickets for the Gourmet Trail and the RNLI Ball are currently on sale on Eventbrite at €75 per person for the Gourmet Trail and €65 per person for the Black Tie Gala Dinner.
World Record Oyster Shucking holder, Shucker Paddy will be in Cork for the Oyster and Seafood Festival in September to take part in the All-Ireland Oyster Shucking Competition. It’s just one of many events taking place over the weekend.
Opening night, Friday September 21, also happens to be Cork Culture night. A Flaming Oyster Stand will be in place selling oysters outside the front door of the Metropole with Simon Lamont, The Lazy Chef from TV3 and Wrights of London cooking oysters “as you have never seen before”. This will take place from 6pm to 8pm. The Cork City Samba Band will playing on MacCurtain Street from 6pm to 7pm, while Vienna Sings, a four-piece opera group will be playing in the hotel lobby from 7pm to 8pm. Tickets for the opening night are now on sale on Eventbrite for €10, which includes a pint of Murphy’s with two oysters.
