An insightful panel discussion titled “Next Gen Storytelling: AI’s Role in PR and Journalism” is set to take place at Munster Technological University (MTU), Bishopstown Campus on Thursday, 10th April 2025. This event will bring together industry professionals, corporate clients, and media experts to explore how artificial intelligence is transforming storytelling, communication strategies, and ethical considerations in PR and journalism.
This panel discussion is organised by the MA in Public Relations and New Media Events class at MTU’s Department of Media Communications. The MA programme provides advanced training in strategic communication, media ethics, and digital storytelling, equipping students with the skills needed to navigate the evolving media landscape.
Valerie Renehan, Head of the Department of Media Communications, praised the initiative, stating :“Empowering the next generation of communicators: through organising such an event, these master’s students have created a great opportunity to explore the future landscape of storytelling for the Public Relations and Journalism Industries.”
The event will feature engaging discussions from thought leaders in the media and public relations industry, and will examine how AI is reshaping media narratives, content creation, and audience engagement, offering insights into the future of digital storytelling.
Guest Speakers include:
•Susie Horgan – Founder & Managing Director of Springboard Communications. With over 25 years of experience in strategic communications and reputation management, Susie is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII) and serves as Hon. Secretary of the Cork Chamber. She is also on the boards of FOTA Wildlife Park and the Public Relations Consultants Association.
•Mark Harrington – Client Manager at AM O’Sullivan PR. Mark is a communications professional with extensive experience across corporate, consumer, and life sciences sectors. He specializes in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, public affairs, and media relations. He holds a BCOMM (Hons) from University College Cork and an MSc in Marketing Practice and is a PRII member.
•Emer Walsh – Business Journalist at the Irish Examiner. Emer brings a wealth of experience in investigative journalism. Before joining the Examiner, she worked with Reach Plc, contributing to CorkBeo, the Irish Mirror, and The Irish Times. She was named Upcoming Journalist of the Year at the UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards in 2024. Emer holds a BA in Economics from University College Cork.
