The inaugural Cork Cheese Week is taking place throughout Cork this week at venues around the city. It will culminate with a weekend of all things cheese at the Cork Airport Hotel on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30.
A number of participating restaurants across Cork are featuring a special cheese dish – starter, main course or dessert – to celebrate Cork Cheese Week.
On Friday September 28, Olivo Restaurant at the Cork Airport Hotel will host the inaugural Cork Cheese Dinner, where each course will feature Irish cheese. The dinner will feature a different chef per course, all of whom are well known chefs within the Cork food industry. The four-course dinner, which will be served with wine, is €65 per person and tickets are on sale now.
On Saturday September 29 and Sunday September 30, Cork Airport Hotel will also host cheese producers from 11am to 5:30pm, where visitors can come and sample cheeses. There will also be live cookery demonstrations highlighting the use of dairy produce, workshops and talks about the cheese and the dairy industry.
General Manager of the Cork Airport Hotel, Peter Loughnane, said: “We are excited about bringing Cheese Week to Cork. It is a really exciting week of events with so much happening across the week at various restaurants and hotels. Cork is a real hub for cheese and dairy production and we are really delighted to celebrate that. It is going to be a very exciting time at the Cork Airport Hotel.”
Sponsors of the Cork Cheese Week include Bord Bia, The National Dairy Council, Clona Dairy and Cork County Council.
