On Monday July 23, President of the Cork Business Association Philip Gillivan, joined by CEO Lawrence Owens, Marketing Manager Sarah Bennett and City Centre Coordinator Paul McGuirk were delighted to accompany Cork City’s new Lord Mayor, Councillor Mick Finn on his annual Cork City Centre walkabout with the CBA. As has been tradition for over 35 years, the President of the Cork Business Association suggests a route and accompanies the reigning Lord Mayor around the city centre, but being Cork, what starts out as a planned route soon changes, as the group met many business owners, some local shoppers and tourists along the way.
This year the route commenced at the Cork Businesses Association’s new offices at 5 South Mall, and from there the group made its way through the South Mall taking in Eventbrite in their amazing redesigned premises in one of Cork’s most iconic buildings. Onto Oliver Plunkett Street to chat with some of the CBA’s long standing members, such as
Keane’s Jewellers and Saville Menswear, and continuing onto Patrick’s Street to welcome some new businesses to the city, such as Selected Homme and Villa.
The newly relocated and incredibly modern Tourist Office at the top of Patrick’s Street was the final stop on the south side of the city before the group crossed the bridge and visited a number of businesses in the Victorian Quarter. The last stop but one was the Metropole Hotel where the future expansion plans of the hotel were discussed with Group General Manager Aaron Mansworth and the hotel General Manager Roger Russell. The walkabout concluded at The Shelbourne Bar on MacCurtain Street.
This annual walkabout is a great opportunity for the Lord Mayor to meet with business owners in the city centre in their own premises and also it allows him an opportunity to welcome new businesses to the city.
“On behalf of the CBA and its members, we would like to again congratulate Cllr Mick Finn on his appointment as Lord Mayor and we look forward to working with him over the course of his term in office.”
