The Dunkettle contract entered between TII and Sisk required that the forecast of costs must be agreed prior to proceeding with main construction works. TII and Sisk can confirm that an agreement has not been reached. Both parties remain committed to advancing the project. TII and Sisk have worked together throughout stage one to successfully develop the project to be much better prepared for the construction of the main works.
TII and Sisk will continue to work collaboratively by commencing advance works in October to include the following; diversion works for gas, electric, telecoms and water. Also included will be a new link road connecting N8 Cork City road with M8 Cork to Dublin motorway incorporating a separated cycleway and pedestrian path. Additionally, there will a new services corridor built for Little Island and advance works will be undertaken for the Burys Bridge cycleway and pedestrian path.
TII will now move to tender for the construction contract. It is anticipated that the construction contract will be awarded in 2020 with sectional openings taking place during 2022, and full completion in 2023. Overall, this pushes the completion date back by 12 months.
The budget for the Dunkettle Interchange project is committed and the value will be confirmed once the tendering process is completed. An updated business case will be prepared when working to bring to Government for approval the award of the main works contract. TII believes that due to the worse than anticipated ground conditions and the consequent increase in scope it is necessary to return to the market for the tendering of main works contract.
TII, Cork County Council and Cork City Council remain committed to the development of national road network throughout the Cork region. As a demonstration of this commitment, TII will be seeking Government approval to award the construction contract for the N22 Ballyvourney to Macroom 22km dual carriageway in September.
