UCC School of Nursing and Midwifery announced that the SIA Honor Society of Nursing and Midwifery Ireland, which was founded in
2014 through collaborative efforts between Higher Education Institutions (UCC, ITT, WIT) and the Nursing and Midwifery Planning and
Development Unit of Cork/Kerry, has been approved to become an official Chapter-at-Large of Sigma International Nursing Society.
This exciting news means that SIA will become the very first Irish Chapter of this prestigious international nursing society https://www.sigmanursing.org/
Prof. Bridie O’Sullivan, Chief Director of Nursing and Midwifery for the South/South West Hospitals Group (SSWHG) feels the society will:
“provide enormous opportunity for professional development, peer engagement and collegial support which is critical to the ongoing advancement
of the profession of nursing”.
About Sigma
Sigma is a professional nursing organization that advances leadership and scholarship in practice, education, and research to enhance the health
of all people. As it becomes an official chapter of the international organisation, ‘SIA’ will be known as ‘Omega Epsilon at-Large’. The
chapter’s official chartering ceremony will be held in the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork on 29th
November 2018.
