The iconic Oyster Tavern welcomed Irish celebrity chef and TV star, Derry Clarke, for a once-off prestigious event. The ‘Dine with Derry’ experience took place on Tuesday, November 21, in The Oyster Tavern, with a percentage of ticket sales going directly to Penny Dinners, one of Cork’s oldest caring organisations.
Diners on the night enjoyed a cocktail on arrival, followed by a five course tasting menu with matching wines, designed and cooked by renowned chef, Derry Clarke, with ingredients sourced from The English Market right next door. Derry was assisted on the night by his head chef, Tom Doyle, and the recently appointed new head chef in The Oyster Tavern, Kate Lawlor, making it a unique opportunity for diners to have a sumptuous meal prepared for them by three of Ireland’s most highly regarded chefs.
Ahead of the event, Derry Clarke shared his excitement about coming to Cork and being a part of a great event for a great cause.
“I can’t wait to visit The Oyster Tavern and be a part of this event. I remember The Oyster Tavern from years ago when I used to visit it with my uncle, so looking forward to going back and seeing it after its transformation. I am a huge fan of The English Market and visit it every time I am in Cork, so to be able to prepare a once-off exciting menu using The English Market as my fridge, so to speak, is a really exciting concept for me. My head chef, Tom Doyle, will also be coming with me for the occasion and we are really looking forward to working with Kate Lawlor, who is a superb chef, so between us all I have no doubt we’ll exceed expectations.”
Speaking about the event, owner of The Oyster Tavern, Alan Clancy, said: “We are very excited about this event, and we have already had a huge demand for tickets, so I’m sure it will be a huge success and raise a lot of money for Penny Dinners. We wanted to do something in the lead up to Christmas to give back to the Cork community, so when the opportunity came up to partner with Derry Clarke and The English Market it seemed like a great fit.”
And what a success it was, as at the end of the night, Jerry Harrington of The Oyster Tavern, was able to present Cork Penny Dinners’ Caitriona Twomey with a cheque for €2,000!
