Recognising the outstanding contribution to STEM education in Cork, CEIA – Cork’s Technology Network presented the inaugural Teacher of the Year Award to Dan O’Sullivan of Glanmire Community College. The award acknowledges his dedication and inspiration to secondary school students in the field of science, technology, engineering and maths. He was heavily involved in the live-link with the International Space Station, allowing students the opportunity to interview an astronaut and engage with the International Space Station.
The CEIA Award for Best Engineering Graduate (CIT) was presented to Michael Joyce, while David O’Callaghan was awarded Best Electrical Engineering Graduate (UCC).
Speaking at the awards ceremony, CEIA Chair of the Education & Skills Committee, Valerie Cowman, said: “Every year, we recognise student excellence in Engineering at UCC and CIT and I congratulate this year’s award recipients Michael and David, on being incredibly successful in their final year exams.
“This year we also wanted to acknowledge those who inspire students every day through their work as a teacher. Dan O’Sullivan of Glanmire Community College was a clear winner and worthy award recipient. He is incredibly dedicated to his pupils at GCC, participating in numerous extra curricular STEM programmes, and during school hours encouraging and supporting his students in the area of STEM.”
