In 2017, the percentage of people who liked their jobs was a low 29 percent. That is a whole 71 percent of people, who hated their work. And how does that impact your company?
According to our Recommended Partner and positivity expert, Eilish Murphy, unhappiness in the workplace leads to 10 percent less productivity in staff. “I have worked with people in schools, hospitals, hospitality services, factory staff and many more. The one thing they all have in common is that they don’t like going to work and feel that instead of working as a team there are lots of politics in place. They say people are working against each other instead of with each other. With this information alone you can see how this is working against your business and team instead of for them.
“As the research team put it, ‘We find that human happiness has large and positive causal effects on productivity. Positive emotions appear to invigorate human beings.’
“It has been found that financial incentives aren’t enough to make for highly productive employees. Companies that invest in employee support and satisfaction tend to succeed in generating happier workers. At Google, employee satisfaction rose 37 percent as a result of those initiatives.
When people are happier their brain works better. People are more productive, more creative and are better at problem-solving. When people are working in a group of people that support and encourage each other they get more done and it is as simple as that.”
Eilish helps companies to get their staff clear on their goals; to work as a group and in collaboration with each other; to get clear on all of the things they like about their job and their lives, so they can be happier.
If you find your staff are unhappy and it’s hard to get the results you want from them, now you know the reason why. They are unhappy at work.
“Now it is your turn to invest in your staff, to improve their work-life and productivity!”
