Following the success of the inaugural It Takes A Village at Trabolgan, East Cork, in April, Ireland’s live-in festival, nestled on the stunning south coast, is set to make a welcome return to the seaside holiday village for three days of dancing and divilment, at a slightly later time next year, Friday May 10 to Sunday May 12, 2019.
With three main venues and pop up stages all over the 120-acre site at Trabolgan, villagers can expect big sounds from the finest international and Irish acts, thrilling performances, exciting bands and DJs, wordsmiths and MCs, art installations and the finest local food producers. Organisers have stated that 50% of tickets are already booked up since going on sale to 2018 villagers, and with the first round of acts announced today, it’s shaping out to be a sell-out festival.
Checking in to Trabolgan Holiday Village in May will be: BBC 6 Music Radio Presenter and international club DJ Gilles Peterson; experimental producer Herbert; Jamaican dancehall pioneer Sister Nancy; jazz hip hop group The Herbaliser; atmos-folk duo Saint Sister; Grammy-award winning filmmaker, musician and DJ Don Letts; folk singer songwriter Lisa O’Neill; London based post-punk band Snapped Ankles; nocturnal buzzer New Jackson; experimental miscreants Meltybrains?; the renowned songstress Katie Kim; alt-rockers Pillow Queens; legendary Cork DJ and producer Colm K; electro producer Bantum; Choice music prize winners Ships; music enthusiast and buzzer on the decks Nialler9; electronic pop outfit AE MAK; esoteric genre-fluid-alt-pop group Happyalone; and, as well as this eclectic music programme, expect appearances from Kevin Barry, Lisa McInerney, Cormac Lally, Lords Of Strut, Gay Future with Eddie Kay, Tonie Walsh, GLAMO, Candy Warhol & The Haus of Mockie Ah!, pool parties, synchronised swimming, arcade raves, and lots more to be announced!
It Takes A Village is a unique Irish festival experience set to the landscape in the idyllic and lush surroundings of Trabolgan, looking out over the sea. The festival offers 150 self-catering houses and apartments, plus 35 fully-serviced campervan sites. No camping in muddy fields here! Check into your cosy village home and enjoy a clean bed, warm showers, and private bathrooms, for the weekend.
One of the festival organisers Joe Kelly of The Good Room said: “It’s great to be coming back for the second year of It Takes a Village. This year we have moved to May, so hopefully the weather will be as beautiful as the site. We are continuing with our broad palette of music with everything from funk to folk, punk to party, synchronised swimming, and even birds of prey. We also have a range of performance pieces, poets, writers, and much more still to be announced going forward. It’s going to be only massive!”
If you’re interested in attending ITAV for the weekend you have two options: Book a house with your friends, e.g. a five-person house – five festival tickets and accommodation for the entire weekend, or book your campervan pitch and bring the van, if that’s how you roll. ITAV is primarily a live-in festival, but there will be a limited number of day tickets available for Sunday May 12 only.
Each weekend festival ticket includes full festival access, three nights accommodation, and private parking outside your house.
The mischief will run from Friday May 10 to Monday May 13, with all music ending late Sunday night. Tickets are on sale now from ittakesavillage.fm, with a handy deposit system in place, so you can reserve your spot today and pay later.
